Poorly children at a Norfolk hospital will get a big dose of sunshine when a special ‘pop-up’ panto pays them a visit.

Starlight Children’s Foundation, which provides entertainment to young people in hospitals and hospices, is visiting the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at King’s Lynn next week.

It will be performing Robinson Crusoe at the Rudham Ward next Wednesday (10am), as part of an eight week tour of children’s wards around the country.

The show is a brand new adaptation of the classic children’s story, described as interactive and full of fun.

Young patients will get to laugh, cheer and sing-along as the four actors perform for them, their families and the staff. The play stars Zachary Price, as Robinson Crusoe; Catherine Irlam, as Princess Moonflower; Melanie Greaney, as Sarah the cook and Jamie Park, as Captain Hogwash.

Every year, Starlight provides entertainment and distraction for more than half a million poorly children and the Starlight Summer Panto will give thousands of children the chance to shout “He’s behind you!” from the safety of their hospital ward.

Mandy French, a hospital play specialist at the QEH, said: “Every year we look forward to Starlight’s Summer Panto and we simply can’t wait for the arrival of Robinson Crusoe.

“We know that play can significantly help to improve a child’s hospital experience and Starlight’s Summer Panto gives our young patients a chance to forget their illness for a short while and simply have some fun.”

Neil Swan, chief executive of Starlight Children’s Foundation, said, “All of Starlight’s activities are aimed at distracting children from the pain and anxiety that they might be feeling as a result of their illness and Starlight’s Summer Panto is always hugely popular with hospitals and hospices alike.

“We hope that this performance of Robinson Crusoe will be just what the doctor ordered.”
