Every year hundreds of grey seals arrive at Horsey and last year 28,000 people saw the seals on the vast soft sands.

Mr Plume said: 'When I visited last week, there were in excess of 350 seals reported on the beach with many pups of varying age, including one that had just been born.

'There was no shortage of feeding, squabbling cows and fighting bulls as well as a rather large bull on the path along the dunes which drew quite a crowd from the visitors.

A voluntary beach closure is currently in place until the end of January 2013 - when it is expected most seals will have left - to help keep them safe.

Mr Plume continued: 'Don't forget the bulls can grow to 300kgs, the cows are very protective of the pups and can move remarkably quick if they need to, these animals will bite so please keep your distance and ensure all dogs are on leads.'

He added: 'The seals of Horsey now have protection from disturbance by The Friends of Horsey Seals.

'There are plenty of volunteers to talk to who will offer you an experts overview of the seals and the area.'
