People are invited to take part in a litter pick at a small area of woodland in Norwich.

Green Party councillors are hoping to clear up Lion Wood in the Thorpe Hamlet area of the city.

The litter pick takes place at 11am on Saturday, January 27.

Lesley Grahame, Green Party councillor, said: 'Collecting rubbish brings people together, improving the appearance of an area, wildlife habitats and our relationship to where we live in a wider sense.

'Dumping rubbish is anti-social on all of these counts. More people are realising this as they choose alternatives to throwaway packaging.'

Norwich Green councillors organised a similar event along the River Wensum in October, where they used canoes to clear litter.

Two groups will meet on Saturday, one at the Telegraph Lane entrance to the wood, opposite the Rosary Cemetery, and the other on the corner of Cintra Road/Wellesley Avenue South.
