An initiative to get more commuters between Wymondham and Norwich on their bicycles will hit the road again this summer.

More than 30 cyclists took part in the first Wymondham Approach last year - a mass commute to promote the physical and environmental benefits of cycling to and from work.

The event is set to return next month, which will leave from Wymondham Market Place early on Friday, July 13 for a ten mile ride to Norwich city centre.

The cycle is being organised by Matt Wood and Tom Plackett, of Wymondham-based architects Lucas

Hickman Smith and Norwich artists Townley and Bradby.

Mr Wood, who started cycling to meetings in Norwich a few years ago, said the commute helped save money and reduce carbon emissions.

“Almost everyone I spoke to about it thought cycling into Norwich sounded a bit crazy, but most of the journey is on side‐roads or cycle paths, and two return trips a week give me all the exercise I need – without any time wasted in the gym,” he said.

The Wymondham Approach will begin from 7.45am on July 13 from the Market Cross and will follow the B1172, passing through Hethersett and Cringleford, then along Newmarket Road into the city‐centre at around 8.50am. The return journey will leave the Forum at 5.45pm. Eight miles of the ten‐mile route are on designated cycle paths.

The event is supported by Howards Cycles on Back Lane in Wymondham, who will be offering a free bicycle health‐check to anyone thinking about taking part in the mass‐commute.

  • Lycra boys just want to have fun....CO2 is a beneficial plant food, so I'm sticking to four wheels and keeping my veggie plot healthy!!!
