The Acorn Fair is a family-friendly event designed to educate young and old alike on how we can do our bit for the environment.

Funded by the People’s Post Code Lottery and in conjunction with the Wayland Partnership, the fair at the Queen’s Hall in Watton on Saturday, January 21 will be a first for the area.

The event, taking place between 10am and 2pm, is being supported by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and other organisations involved in all aspects of conservation, wildlife and the natural world.

The theme of this inaugural fair is Nuture, Nature, Future and will feature various activities for all ages on how people can look after their own green spaces and encourage wildlife into them.

From examining the biodiversity and unique wildlife of the Brecks to learning about the art of composting and the inner workings of a wormerie, all aspects of the local natural world and our relationship with our own environment will be explored.

The Acorn Fair ties into a project currently been run by the Wayland Partnership, Growing Together, which is providing funding to Watton and Wayland’s villages for green space projects and coordinating other conservation projects across the area.

As well as these environmental activities, there will be traditional fair entertainment including a tombola, lucky dip and a guess the number of conkers in the jar competition.

There will also be the chance to make a wish while planting seeds and bulbs.

Refreshments will be provided by the Watton Women’s Institute.
