Crowds gathered along Norwich Street in Dereham this afternoon (Wednesday) as four fire crews were called out to a blaze in a launderette in the town centre.
Following reports of a building fire in the line of shops at about 5pm, appliances were sent from Watton, Hingham as well as Dereham.
Crew manager Neil Richardson said it was a fire in the driers of the launderette. He said breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a positive pressure ventilation fan had been used.
Smoke was seen billowing out of the front of the shop as a crowd gathered outside to find out what was happening.
The fire engines blocked the street, preventing traffic accessing Norwich Street during the rush hour.
Supporters of Scottish champions Celtic are in Norwich ahead of the Adam Drury testimonial game tonight.
