A proposal to create a solar farm in Ellough, near Beccles, has been recommended for approval.
Waveney District Council’s development control committee has been advised to approve a bid from Lark Energy to create a farm south of Benacre Road.
The 30MW farm would have 101,640 photovoltaic panels across 46 hectares of land bordering Benacre Road, Copland Way and Ellough Park Raceway, with Ellough Wood and Hulver Road.
The parish councils of Worlingham, Ellough, Mutford and Henstead all raised objections to the scheme, with concerns on the visual impact, road infrastructure and proximity to the airfield. However, North Cove and the town council of Beccles pledged their support.
The application originally included land north of Benacre road, between the road and the runway to Ellough airfield, but this was removed.
Last month the district council committee asked for an area to the south of a turkey farm to be removed, but Lark Energy have said they are unwilling to do this. Despite this, a report to the committee has recommended approval.
It says it will be a “significant development” and that the benefit of the renewal energy would outweigh the landscape impact.
The committee meet at Lowestoft Town Hall on Tuesday at 6pm.
