Volunteers take part in a litter pick in Lowestoft and Pakefield.

Lowestoft and Pakefield will be looking much cleaner this week after volunteers collected 25 bin bags full of rubbish.

The community litter pick was organised by fast-food chain McDonald’s, which is sponsoring Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Where You Live campaign.

And despite heavy showers today, 38 people turned-out for the event.

The litter picking equipment was provided by Waveney Norse.

David Burwood, assistant manager at McDonald’s Lowestoft, said: “It was not a bad turnout considering the weather.

“It was a positive day generally.

“Seeing 38 people walking around in high visibility vests collecting rubbish gets the message across that there is rubbish around but it is really easy to stop it. All you have to do is use a bin.

“Having people pro actively going around picking up rubbish shows everybody they can do it.”

He added: “I want to thank Waveney Norse for providing the litter picking equipment. They have been fantastic.

“I also want to thank everybody that turned up and the people who gave us support along the way.”

The volunteers started at McDondald’s in Station Square, Lowestoft and walked via the beach to McDonald’s in Pakefield before retuning via Tom Crisp Way.
