Hundreds of rescued hedgehogs will be nestling in the warmth thanks to a large donation of newspapers made by Archant.
Around 10,000 old newspapers weighing close to a tonne were donated to the RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre for poorly underweight hedgehogs.
Close to 300 hedgehogs are being cared for by the centre to help them gain weight before they are released back into the wild for hibernation.
One newspaper is used for one box per day for the hedgehogs to stay warm, but the centre said they are experiencing shortages as more hedgehogs are being brought to them.
Sue Levings, administrator at the centre, said: “We are really grateful for the donation, it will mean we can continue cleaning them out and keeping them warm in their boxes. We had 267 hedgehogs last time we counted and they’re still coming in today so any donation is gratefully received.”
David Austin, who delivered the newspapers, said: “I really enjoyed delivering the papers as it’s for an excellent cause and as I’ve tried to save hedgehogs in my own garden many times, this particular animal is very close to my heart. It was a delight to be able to help and Happy Christmas Hedgehogs.”
