10 places for families to enjoy a summer swim in Norfolk and Suffolk during the school holidays

With the school holidays starting today, here are ten places for families to enjoy swimming in Norfolk and Suffolk during the summer break.

Lowestoft beach. Lowestoft beach.

It comes as this newspaper continues its Summer of Swimming campaign amid concerns that while swimming remains one of the country’s most popular sports, participation is falling and too many children are growing up without basic swimming skills.

Beccles Lido, Puddingmoor, Beccles.

Beccles Lido is the perfect place to enjoy an early morning swim or a family day out. This traditional, outdoor heated swimming pool has a large 30m x 15m pool with separate toddler and paddling pools and a new giant inflatable aquarun. The summer season runs to September 10.

Breckland Leisure Centre and Waterworld, Thetford.

Complete with a 25m pool, a learner pool and a leisure pool there is something to suit everyone. The centre also offers a twisting water slide for the more adventurous types.

Gorleston beach.

Just south of the pier, this fantastic sandy beach is perfect for those who enjoy digging with buckets and spades or relaxing in the sunshine. The beach is covered by RNLI lifeguards until September 17.

Wells-next-the-Sea beach.

With vast open views and miles of sandy beach to enjoy this is a must visit. The beach is covered by RNLI lifeguards until September 10.

Lowestoft’s South beach.

Marina Centre Marina Centre

Complete with golden sands and stunning views, this popular beach is covered by RNLI lifeguards until September 10.

Southwold Pier beach.

The quality of this beach has been recognised over the years with numerous Keep Britain Tidy Blue Flag awards. The beach is covered by RNLI lifeguards until September 10.

Marina Leisure and Fitness Centre, Great Yarmouth.

With an amazing leisure pool with beach entrance, toddler lagoon and play slide, wave machine, water slide and inflatable fun sessions there is something for everyone.

Sportspark University of East Anglia, Norwich.

The Sportspark offers a world-class pool with a timetable featuring public swimming sessions, swimming lessons, family splash sessions and more.

Alive St James swimming pool, King’s Lynn.

This is a perfect learner pool for children, and also offers adult lessons. With a large and smaller pool, it caters for all ages and abilities.

Subtropical Swimming Paradise at Center Parcs Elveden Forest, Brandon.

With a main wave pool, four whirlpools, a new Lagoon pool, wild water rapids and the thrilling new water ride Tropical Cyclone, there is something for the whole family to enjoy and relax together. Day visitor passes are only available to those visiting a staying guest.
