Students at the Thomas Clarkson Academy have achieved the best results the school has ever seen, with 96pc gaining A* to E grades, while Wisbech Grammar School scored a 100pc pass rate.

The Academy has also seen a nine per cent improvement in A*-C grades across both AS and A2, with the greatest gains in English, Maths and Science.

Most students in BTec PE and Performing Arts were awarded either a merit or distinction.

Principal Clare Claxton said: 'I am absolutely delighted that the majority of students have got the grades they need to get into university or further education. This reflects the hard work that the students have put in and the improving quality of teaching at Thomas Clarkson Academy.'

Holly Beresford and Jake Tuck are celebrating after achieving the best A Level results ever gained at the school.

Holly, who gained A in Maths, B in Chemistry and C in Biology, will be reading forensic science at Lincoln University and hopes to pursue a career as a forensic scientist.

Jake, who achieved A in Maths, C in History and C in Physics, will be going to study Maths at Derby University.

'I'm feeling really good,' he said. 'I got what I wanted. The teachers have been brilliant and they have pushed me to get these results.'

There will be some familiar faces on campus as Danielle Gribble, 18, will also be at Derby studying accounting and finance, and Kara Atkins, 18, will be studying sociology. Danielle gained B in business studies, D in sociology and E in EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and Kara got B in EPQ, C in sociology and D in english.

Yousuf Bin-Suhayl, 14, studied A Level Physics and Chemistry at the Academy and achieved A grades in both subjects.

He said: 'Studying here has been great fun and the teaching has been brilliant.'

Yousuf's father Sohale Rahman said: 'This place is amazing. It is really up to parents and the community to get the best out of the school. There is nothing stopping them. Thomas Clarkson has been Yousuf's best learning experience thus far.'

Two students gained straight A grades in all four of their AS subjects. Akshay Kishor and Mayra Brandao both achieved A grades in AS Level Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics.

Katie Kierman, 18, has also won a place at Lincoln to study zoology after gaining B in biology, C in chemistry and C in geography.

The school has also seen some great successes at AS Level. Akshay Kishor and Mayra Brandao achieved A grades in biology, chemistry, maths and physics while Stacey Pitcher gained B in english literature, A in maths, B in psychology and A in sociology.

All students who applied to university have been offered a place.

Students at Wisbech Grammar School are heading for their chosen universities after securing a 100pc pass rate.

New headmaster Chris Staley said: 'I am very, very pleased with the 100pc pass rate and the majority of students have got their first or second-choice universities.'

He also paid tribute to the pupils who had secured the highest grades to secure places on competitive courses at leading universities.

'There are some outstanding results, with 13pc of the grades being at A* and 39pc at A* and A. Over two thirds of the passes were at the top three grades – A*, A and B – which would see the students into top-class universities for the courses they would wish to read.'
