The 66-year-old, famous for hits including Tie Your Mother Down, I Want It All and Fat Bottomed Girls, has thrown his considerable support behind the City of Norwich school’s We Will Rock You production.

The rocker told his 160,000 Twitter followers via his handle @DrBrianMay: “We Will Rock You! @cns_school 12th, 13th, 14th Dec - CNS, Eaton Road Norwich. Good luck, guys! Strong is the Vibe in you! Bri X”

May, who is also a keen astrophysicist and lives in Windlesham, Surrey, was voted the seventh greatest guitarist of all time in a Planet Rock poll.

He is also an animal welfare activist, campaigning to protect animals from cruel, degrading and unnecessary treatment, with a particular emphasis on the prevention of fox hunting and badger culling.

The musical, written by Ben Elton and produced by Queen features classic Queen anthems such as Under Pressure, Killer Queen, Hammer to Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and We Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Performances are at City of Norwich School on Thursday December 12 at 6.30pm, Friday December 13 at 6.30pm and Saturday December 14 at 5pm.

Tickets cost £3.50 adult, £3 for concessions and under fives are free.
