The sports hall is filled with noise as primary schoolchildren compete at Sportshall athletics, loud cheers can be heard from the poolside and the squash courts have been transformed into a table tennis mecca as more than 600 youngsters compete in the last day of the week-long event.

The day kicked off with an opening speech by Paralympic silver medallist Mel Clarke encouraging the youngsters to be the best they can be.

The Taverham archer, who is currently based in Worcester, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the children and it’s about creating the next generation of Olympians and Paralympians.”

Other events taking place include quick-sticks hockey out on the mist-covered astroturf pitches.

The day will finish with a closing ceremony, lowering the curtain on the five days of competitions.

A Norfolk Summer School Games will be held in July.
