The vice-chancellor of a Norwich university has been announced as the president of a network of European universities.

Professor David Richardson, of University of East Anglia (UEA), took up the role of the Aurora network at a conference held in Norwich last week.

About 150 delegates from across the continent came together for the three-day conference at UEA and Norwich Research Park.

The network is made up of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Université Grenoble-Alpes in France, University of Aberdeen in Scotland, University of Antwerp in Belgium, University of Bergen in Norway, University of Duisberg-Essen in Germany, University of Gothenburg in Sweden, the University of Iceland and UEA.

Professor Richardson said: The challenge now is for Aurora universities to get to understand each other even better, celebrate the fact we are dedicated to difference and work together in a focused way on finding solutions to some of the problems our world needs to solve.'
