Youngsters got the chance to find out more about what it is like to work as an architect from the team who designed their school.
Four pupils from Thetford Academy recently spent the day at Jestico+Whiles, architects of the new Thetford Academy, in Euston, London.
Charlie Read, Philip James, Deimante Pusvaskyte and Braydon Weibel-Seckley, who are all interested in architecture-related careers, set out to investigate the life of an architect.
In the morning, they learnt about the training behind becoming an architect, the history of the building in London and had a tour of the architecture and interiors studios.
Pupils then had a session on the Thetford Academy project, a mix of new build and refurbishment work being carried out by contractors Balfour Beatty through their regional construction services company Mansell.
After lunch, pupils took part in a competition to design and build spaghetti bridges with the winning pupil, Philip James, presented with a prize by Jude Harris, associate director of Jestico+Whiles architects.
Jointly, the pupils said: “It was a fantastic experience and an interesting insight into the world of architects which enabled us to better understand our future college courses and careers.”
