The first sports day held by a new academy had to be cancelled after just a couple of hours today (Wednesday) because of wet weather.
Thetford Academy was forced to abandon the event because of the waterlogged ground and further rain forecast for the remainder of the day.
Lead professional for physical education, Dawn Combellack, said some activities, including the 1,500 metres races, javelin and discus, had taken place early this morning.
“It was a huge event we were trying to put on today and everybody’s gutted,” she added. “We’ve got a school on two sites so we would have had to bring the rest of the children up to the one site if they were going to take part so we had to make a decision.
“The staff and students wanted to take part in a spectacular day and the positive thing from my point of view is it’s the first one and everybody was behind it - everybody was very excited.”
She added that because the school term was almost over and other events were due to take place, the sports day would not be rescheduled.
A service at a Sikh temple in Norwich spiralled out of control when police were called to break up a brawl.

It wasn't the only school in the County that had it's sports day cancelled.. what is the news here ? They managed to have "a couple of hours" before it was rained off, which is more than our local school managed
