Michael Gove has called on teachers to improve their offering to pupils by making lessons less about spreadsheets and how to send emails and more about building websites and computer programming.
The EDP would like to know what you think.
How important do you think ICT lessons are for pupils?
And what are, or were, your lessons like?

Most kids just need instruction in using the most commonly used business and office software and touch typing lessons. The computer engineers and programmers of the the future will be the clever ones good at maths. They should of course have access to GCSE courses designed for that purpose. The compulsory four year IT courses my kids endured at the hands of a non specialist would have been laughable if they had not wasted so many timetable hours that would have been better spent on maths and science. Think of the lessons as being taken from a bumper colouring book for IT and you would get an idea.

They would be far better served by lessons teaching them to read , write and understand basic mathematics. Written job applications from 16 & 17 year olds today contain multiple errors of both spelling and grammar, not good enough to get an interview much less a job.
