A Great Yarmouth high school has experienced problems with its food supplier, leading it to remind pupils they have the option to bring in packed lunches instead.

Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, which is run by Inspiration Trust, had sent out the message at the beginning on this term, leading to some criticism from parents over free school meal provision.

Inspiration Trust spokesman James Goffin said: “We would not expect any pupil entitled to free school meals to bring in a packed lunch.

“We have had some teething problems with a new catering provider and to help give some extra flexibility while that settles down we wanted to remind families that they do have the option to bring in a packed lunch if they choose to.

“We know how important it is for children to get good food at school, which is why we actively encourage families to sign up for free school meals.”
