Filmmaker Jax Burgoyne and actress Lucy Short plan to open Creative Minds and Future Films Performing Arts and Media Academy – the CMFF Academy for short – at the Vineyard Centre, in Nelson Street.

With the motto Write, Cameras, Action! the academy will teach filmmaking and writing as well as singing, dancing and acting.

Jax, who lives in Norwich, said: “We have this dream of a group that writes its own material as well as making its own costumes and sets and posters, doing its own press releases, and then doing all of the performing too.”

“And films it all,” added Lucy, who lives in Lingwood.

“Whether it’s making a documentary about the play we’ve written, or just writing and then showing our own film.”

It is hoped to run academy classes for all ages after school, evenings and weekends, but at first Saturday classes for young people aged five to 16 will begin on October 4.

Jax said: “We’re building it up gradually but we want to go a long way. Norwich is a city of artists, and we are going to be part of that.”

Lucy, 23, performed at the London 2012 Paralympics opening ceremony and has also danced at a garden party hosted by Prince Charles at Clarence House. She has appeared in Glorious 39 and the TV series Kingdom.

Jax, 30, has a BA degree in American Literature with Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia. She has been involved in filmmaking as a volunteer with BBC Voices at the Forum in Norwich and now works as a broadcast assistant for BBC Look East.

There will be free CMFF Academy taster sessions at the Vineyard Centre on August 16 and 23 for young people. On both days, the taster sessions will be 9am-9.45am for five to seven-year-olds, and 10am-1pm for eight to 11-year-olds and 12 to 16-year-olds.

Places on the taster sessions need to be booked in advance by emailing cmffacademy@gmail.com or by calling Jax on 07732 976162 or Lucy on 07845 079330. People can also visit www.cmffacademy.co.uk, find the academy on Facebook and follow @CMFFAcademy on Twitter.

CMFF Academy’s first term will run from October 4 to December 6. For more information email cmffacademy@gmail.com
