Support floods in for Deryn with rare cancer ahead of bone marrow transplant

Messages of love and luck have started to pour in for the Watton schoolboy who is fighting one of the world’s rarest forms of cancer - why not send yours?

Readers have already started to send their well-wishes to Deryn Blackwell, 13, who will have a bone marrow transplant at the Bristol Royal Hospital on Friday which he and his family hope will save his life.

Diagnosed with leukaemia aged 10, the Wayland Academy student was then told two years in to his treatment that he had relapsed, and had also developed Langerhans Cell Sarcoma – one of only six cases in the world.

Deryn is thought to be the only person to have both cancers at the same time, and his bravery has captured the hearts of people up and down the country, including celebrities.

His bone marrow transplant will take around two hours and he will have to spend between three and seven months in total isolation because of his low immunity.
