STUDENTS at a Portishead school are celebrating the opening of a new £2.2million building.

Having watched the new block rise from the construction site last year, pupils at Gordano School were at last able to explore the new English Faculty building when school reopened to pupils on Monday.

The new facilities include two ICT suites and seven brand new classrooms, all equipped with the latest digital projectors and interactive whiteboards.

The English faculty is enjoying a double celebration as they move into their new building after 88 per cent of GCSE students achieved a C or above in English Language in this year’s exams.

Headteacher, Gary Lewis said: “We are intensely proud of the English results this year and it seems right that the faculty and pupils start their year in gleaming new surroundings. They already produced some of their best English results in the country in their old accommodation so the sky is the limit now.”

Construction at Gordano continues with contractors Willmott Dixon standing by to begin work on the new £2million sixth form study centre as soon as planning permission is received.
