A north Norfolk school is taking a giant leap forwards.

Pupils at Stalham Community Infant and Pre-School are being encouraged to read and write through the topic of giants.

Head Joan Edwards said the children were very excited this term when they found giant foot prints on the school playing field. In turn they wrote the giant a letter and left him some food and received a letter back from him.

To further inspire the children, the school is planning a performance of Roald Dahl’s book The BFG by actor Anthony Pedley and year two students, thanks to a grant, are going to Norwich Theatre Royal to see a performance of another Roald Dahl novel, James and the Giant Peach.

Local author David Bedford will be coming in to work with the school for a day in April and Cordelia Spalding will spend a week in April with the children making ‘giant’ characters from James and the Giant Peach to display around the school grounds.

Wendy Stanger, parent governor, said; “We are hoping that through all these exciting fun activities we will inspire our children to reach for excellence in both their reading and writing.”
