Places are now available at Somerleyton Pre School for children aged two to five.

Jane Harrington, manager at Somerleyton Pre School, said: 'No catchment rules apply so children are welcomed from all surrounding areas, the pre school is only 10 minutes from Lowestoft and Oulton.'

Admitting it had been an exciting time recently for the pre school, based at the village hall in Somerleyton, children have been learning about growth and harvest – including hatching their own butterflies and growing a bumper harvest of potatoes – while celebrating the good Ofsted rating. The children planted their own potatoes, watered and cared for them themselves then harvested and ate them with butter.

Jane Harrington said: 'It is invaluable to young children to experience nature in this way, it enhances their learning, gives them a great sense of pride in their achievements and most of all is great fun.'

The pre school children spend lots of time playing outside, particularly enjoying the 'mud kitchen'. They also attend regular Forest School sessions at Lound Lakes.
