Ofsted inspectors have praised Sheringham Primary School for its 'outward looking learning environment', in a report giving the Cooper Road setting an across-the-board 'good' rating.

Joint head teachers Rachael Carter and Sue Brady provided 'seamless' leadership and a good quality of education, the report said, with

a shared commitment among staff and pupils to live up to the school motto of 'be all you can be'.

Governors were found to be 'highly committed', inspectors added, with the head teachers supported by a strong leadership team, the school boasting high quality science, art and language teaching and staff encouraging a positive attitude among pupils.

Pupils behaved 'exceptionally' well, were welcoming and polite and, because adults were consistent in their expectations of behaviour, a 'harmonious atmosphere' was fostered.

Mrs Brady said the report recognised the effectiveness of the 'unusual' leadership model, adding: 'It was lovely to hear the children speak so positively to the inspectors and to see how proud they were to show off their school.'

Inspectors, who met with staff and pupils and took into account 81 responses to a parent questionnaire, said children got of to a 'flying start' in early years, benefited from a broad and interesting curriculum and were able to take part in an extensive range of clubs, trips and residential visits.

They also praised the range of opportunities for parents to engage with youngsters' education, including regular learning cafes, and recognised teachers' efforts to raise girls' attainment in maths to the same level as boys.

Recommendations for further improvement included staff encouraging pupils to work at a greater pace in lessons, maintaining improved attendance figures and governors sharpening their monitoring skills so that leaders were held to account with greater rigour.

Mrs Carter said staff and pupils were delighted with the report as it reflected the school's ethos of achieving the best for every child.

'I think it emphasised how wonderful the children and the staff are and how proud we all are of our school – it's a real team effort by everyone concerned,' she added.
