Schools are often criticised unfairly when they close. It is not a decision taken lightly. Something else to bear in mind is that although many of us (including me) remember trudging through snow to get to school and sitting in multiple layers to keep warm, if the heating had gone wrong, that was in the days when most villages had their own school and the teachers lived in the village. These days, not every village has its own school and teachers often live quite a way from their place of work, making it difficult for them to get in to school.. Although the main roads are gritted and are not too bad to contend with, the problem is the difficulty in getting to the main roads.
