I want to complain about this content:

  • Entirely sensible, finding some balance between the cost of educating children in small schools and carting them long distances on school buses. One wonders how many small Norfolk schools might have been saved if federation under one head had been implemented earlier. One of the primary schools I attended, of under 30 pupils, closed before it was the norm for families to have two cars and the village atrophied into a dormitory for the older affluent and the retired. Federated schools should also be able to combine to provide the activities which small schools cannot and the lack of which places children from small schools at a disadvantage when they enter high school- eg team games. Federation might also make rotating staff feasible, so that one possible drawback of small schools, too many years with the same teacher, is alleviated. somewhat.
