Pupils from three Norfolk schools take part in mini opera project

Pupils from three Norfolk Primary Schools took to the stage in the finale of the Norfolk Schools Project performing their own mini opera to a packed audience.

On November 25, pupils from Barford Primary School, St Peter’s Primary School, and the Bawburgh School were the main act on stage, performing self-composed musical performance pieces to a full house.

The children devised their performances themselves, together with the help and guidance of teachers, composers, musicians, drama tutors and a creative director as part of the project run by the Norwich Theatre Royal.

This autumn the Norfolk Schools Project has been based on Rusalka, which was performed in November by the world renowned opera company Glyndebourne. Not only did pupils get to see Rusalka performed, they were introduced to the arts in an innovative and exciting way, with the original production proving merely a starting point for the children’s own work.

Pupils, teachers and parents have been amazed and impressed by the standard of the children’s work.

Although this marks the end of the project, it’s clear that for many children their passion for the performing arts has just begun.
