After PE teacher Matt Groves spoke to toy shop owner and Sheringham carnival committee vice chairman Paul Starling, he agreed to provide the scooters at a 50 per cent discount, with the carnival committee donating the remaining £1,000.

Head teacher Rachael Carter said the scooters would be used during PE lessons and as part of a wider project to enhance children's lunch times and play times.

'We have tried to make lunch times more like a family meal times and give children more opportunities for play,' Mrs Carter added.

'Having the scooters means a huge amount, it is great to forge links with local organisations and, because the children all enjoy the carnival, it is lovely for them to see where some of the proceeds go.'
