Pupils at Magdalen Gates Primary School have sent a clear message out to local dog owners; clear up after your pets.

Picture: Denise BradleyParents, teachers and pupils at the Norwich school, off Bull Close Road, have been so frustrated and disgusted about the amount of dog mess in the vicinity of the school that they decided to launch a poster campaign.
One of the parents, Dr Mark Wilsher, approached local city councillor, Julie Brociek-Coulton, and the school about asking pupils to design a poster to be displayed outside the school to try and encourage dog owners to be more responsible.
Pupils from all six years at the school subsequently designed posters, with a winner chosen from each year and an overall winning poster set to be professionally made into a sign.
Julie was joined by fellow city councillor, Bert Bremner, portfolio holder for environmental strategy for Norwich City Council, for the judging to find the overall winner. After much deliberation, this turned out to be year one student Kaden Browning.
She said: “We wanted something that really hit home when you saw it, something cheeky and quirky.
“We had lots of entries from every year and I want to thank Bert Bremner for helping, but we had a brilliant time choosing and there were quite a few that caught our eye.”
All winners were presented with prizes by the Lord Mayor of Norwich Jenny Lay on Friday and Kaden was given a small version of his official sign showing his poster design.
Headteacher, Cara Jermy, said: “I am absolutely delighted with how all the children have positively participated in this competition and I would like to thank Monarch Signs of Hellesdon Park Industrial Estate who stepped in to sponsor the event.
“I hope this campaign has some impact and that people take notice of what we are saying.
“After all, we are trying to clean up our community and make this area a better place to live and walk around in.”

As a responsible dog owner myself, I also find it incredibly annoying the amount of sweet papers, take-away boxes and plastic bottles etc that some of these little darlings drop on the way to and from school I only hope they practise what they preach.(High school kids the biggest culprits!)

Sorry to change subject slightly but what about horse owners? I have seen horse --- so many times and the riders never clear it up. Oh and horses are the most important thing on the road as the riders always want drivers to GO SLOW so as not to frighten the horse. Get off the road then I say, you don't pay road tax.

Reading such articles as this makes me very nostalgic for 1970s dog poo. This is because back in the day, it would dry up, turn hard then be dispersed by the wind. What would be a better solution than hassling dog owners would be to change the ingredients in dog food to achieve the traditional white poo the older readers will know and love.

Now that Portfolio Holder for Dog Wardens has seen for himself the disgusting state of the paths and alleyways around Magdalen Gates School perhaps Bert Bremner should get his Dog Warden to start patrolling the streets. Maybe we don't have one I have never seen one.

it is pointless trying to train dog owners because they are all very irresponsible, the marriotts way and bure valley path are just open air toilets for dogs

as a cyclist I constantly get the blame for all anti social behaviour by cyclists so why should'nt all dog owners share the responsibilty of dog fouling

as a cyclist I get blamed for all anti social cycling by other people so why should'nt I label all dog owners as irresponsible, and there is a mentality about dog owners that they believe they are above the law by allowing dog fouling in the same way that they do not keep control of their dogs which leads to dog attacks such as in London

Anybody so antisocial as to not clean up their dogs**t is not going to be influenced by a poster.Put up some cctv cameras and heavily fine the individuals.

'blister', you are obviously not a responsible dog owner then? Don't tar us all with the same brush, the majority of us do clear up after our dogs, despite what you might think.

This has become a problem in the vicinity of schools in other parts of Norwich. I live not far from a school in the west of the city and have recently seen this as a problem. In general, most dog owners near where I live are quite responsible, but as usual, it's the irresponsible ones who are the problem.

If just one dog regularly fouls in the same street and its owner doesn't clear up after it then this is enough to make a serious nuisance. This means that even a small number of irresponsible owners can lead to a great deal of fouling. Influencing them to change their behavior thus can have a big effect.

you will never get dog owners to behave responsibly, most allow their dogs to leave a mess wherever they want

asking dog owners to behave responsibly is pointless, they believe their animal is more important than anything or anyone else
