The first results are in for Norwich and Notre Dame High School is celebrating a record year.

About 150 students went down to the school on Surrey Street this morning to collect their brown envelopes and discover their fate.

For the vast majority it was smiles all round, particularly for 18-year-old Bathsheba Wells Dion who got four A*s and is off to Cambridge later on this year.

She said: “I’m a bit shocked! It takes a while to sink in, it’s a big weight off my shoulders.”

Her parents went along for support and mum Kate said: “I’m very, very pleased for her. She never believes how clever she is.”

Headteacher Brian Conway said: “We are really pleased with these excellent results from our wonderful Y13 students, 20 of whom have achieved at least 3 grades ‘A’ at A2 level.

“This is truly a fantastic achievement and I am really proud that the hard work of the students and teachers has produced such magnificent results. We wish our students the very best for the future as they leave us to move into University or careers and thank them for all they have contributed to Notre Dame during their time here.”

The traditional gold envelopes are also ready for Year 13 students at Victory Academy in Costessey to open.

Eighteen-year-old Norwich High School for Girls student, Rowena Conway, is also celebrating today after gaining 100pc in her A-Level maths test - scoring the full 600 marks.

She said: “It’s amazing. I was not really expecting it and I’m really happy about it. Although I do love maths I have been really lucky as I have always had really good maths teachers.”

Miss Conway, of The Fields, Hingham, will be going on to study maths and philosophy at Oxford University in October and hopes to pursue a career in finance.

There were smiles all round at The Hewett School Rob Anthony, associate headteacher, said: “It’s been a very good year, I’m very pleased, the students have made very good progress.

“They have obviously worked very hard and hopefully lots of them will be coming in today and will then be off to universirt or whatever they progress onto.”

The University of East Anglia’s clearing hotline is open, on 0300 300 7994.

The Norwich University of the Arts said its clearing lines are also open, on 01603 751485, 01603 751486 or 01603 751487.
