The classic children’s story of The Frog Prince hopped into the world of the TV cookery shows in Aldborough Primary School’s panto.

The twist on the traditional tale saw the story also involve Top Cat, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, The King, the Ugly Sisters, Three Pigs, a Handsome Prince, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf - and a guest appearance from Mary Berry and her marvellous Bake Off cake.

It was written and directed by Key Stage 2 teacher Jill Morgan with the support of teaching assistant Claire Taylor.

The panto told the story of the Three Witches who had mistakenly cast a spell turning Cinderella’s father into a frog leaving the King’s daughters (the Two Ugly Sisters) to woo the Handsome Prince.

They set out on a journey teaming up with an array of characters to find the Froggie Godmother who eventually led them to Winnie and her Witch sisters.

The undoing of the spell, gave a happy-ever-after ending with Cinderella reunited with her father once again.

The frog chorus and the wild woods added dance and song to the entertainment.

The Year 6 children, taking on the main characters, worked hard to learn their lines and put in much time after school, said headteacher Tina Casburn.

“The children were remarkable, showing huge confidence and clearly enjoying themselves.

“They receive a huge amount of coaching in drama, music and dance which we find has a transformational effect on their academic learning for the rest of the year,” she added. Many parents and staff helped with the production, working on costumes, lighting, props, sound and choreography with the help of the school’s Friends group also running a raffle and providing refreshments.
