A school in Sprowston marked its 75th birthday this month by inviting former pupils, parents and governors to celebrate the milestone.
Sprowston Junior School in Recreation Ground Road was opened as Sprowston Central School in September 1937 for 11-14-year-olds, before changing to seven to 11-year-olds 50 years ago.
Pupils at the school came dressed in clothes typical of the 1930s era, as well as attending a tea party for past and present pupils.
Teachers organised a display of both archive and present day pictures of the school’s main building which formed the Central School.
Headteacher Janine Wye said around 200 people came to the celebration and shared their experiences from their school days.
She said: “For us it’s about being a part of the community.”
Former governor David St Quintin left a message for the school saying: “Fascinating to read the log from when my father was headteacher from 1937 until 1956. Glad to see the school is doing so well.”
And a former pupil with a child at the school, Mrs Linning said: “Thank you for a superb afternoon; it brought back lots of memories. Such a lovely school.”
