Mums, dads and grandparents pitted their wits against twenty toddlers at the annual pancakes races held at Sheringham’s Ladybird nursery.

The event, which raises cash for “extras” including trips and equipment, was organised by staff, with youngsters asking family and friends to sponsor their running and flipping skills.

Youngsters took part in relay races around a series of cones in the Cromer Road group’s playground, with some stopping mid-sprint to take a bite from their pancakes before setting off for the finish line.

Parents, grandparents and carers lined up to take part in grown-ups’ races and medals were handed out to all youngsters joining in the fun.

Ladybird manager Louise Brock said spring sunshine added to the fun of the races, which went ahead last year in spite of snowfall.

Thanking parents and staff for their support, Mrs Brock added: “We rely heavily on fundraising to replace worn out toys or buy new ones, and to pay for extra things that aren’t covered by regular funding.”

The nursery has recently benefitted from a £500 donation from Tesco, which paid for a buggy shelter, as well as £160 raised from a second hand clothing collection and the £350 proceeds from a quiz, which was match-funded by Barclays.
