Pupils at a Norwich school have been learning about cultures from around the world.

The youngsters from Lionwood Junior School, in Wolfe Road, today took part in a special International Day which was full of activities celebrating different cultures and countries.

Teacher Jess King said: 'We decided to hold International Day partly because the Olympics is coming up and also because we thought it would be nice for the pupils to look at different cultures and celebrate the similarities and differences.'

The school has just over 170 pupils aged seven to 11-years-old.

Throughout the day the activities they took part in included trying Indian dance and yoga, hearing from visitors from various international charities including Christian Aid and Save the Children, and taking part in a globetrotter quiz which took the children on a journey through countries including The Philippines, Holland, Bangladesh, Germany, Portugal, Ghana, the USA, and Israel.

Parents were also invited to join in with the quiz.

Mrs King said: 'The day was an engaging way to help the children to learn about different countries and to open their eyes to how life in different countries varies so much. Through listening to the charities they also learnt about how difficult it can be for some children in other countries.'
