Photographs, newsletters and articles were on display, sparking many memories. A studio recorded people’s stories and accounts of life at the North Walsham college and current students gave tours to show recent changes including the new student centre, study centre and the Scarburgh science building. Plans for the new £1.5m art centre and theatre were also on display.

The college was formed in 1984 when the all-boys Paston School merged with North Walsham High School for Girls.

Ex principals Peter Brice and Mollie Whitworth attended the celebration and Peter Mayne, principal from 1996-2012, who could not attend, sent a digital message.

To commemorate the event an oak tree was planted by Nicola Lucking, chairman of Paston’s governing body, the corporation, close to an oak tree planted in 1984 when the college opened.

Current principal Kevin Grieve said: “The college, now with 800 students, is in good shape at 30 years old and everyone involved is excited about its future prospects.”
