Young musicians and dancers are being invited to audition for the chance to perform in front of thousands at some of Norwich’s key city centre events.
The Garage, based in Chapel Field North, is on the look out for performers to join its Emerging Artist Academy which over the last year has entertained the crowds at Norwich’s Halloween parade, the city’s Christmas lights switch-on event, and the Lord Mayor’s Celebrations, as well as the Bernard Matthews Youth Awards.
Darren Grice, chief executive of The Garage, said: “Our Emerging Artists Academy supports local talented young performers interested in the performing arts as a future career. Over the year they will perform with other young artists from different disciplines and in front of thousands of people so it’s a really hands on way to get a taste of life as a professional performer.”
The Emerging Artists Academy has a number of different programmes, and auditions for the Music Development Programme are being held on Saturday. The Garage is looking for experienced musicians and vocalists up to the age of 25 years who want to build on their performance skills. Each audition will last 25 minutes - musicians are asked to prepare one or two five-minute pieces and vocalists are asked to prepare one acapella piece and one piece sung to a backing track.
Auditions for the academy’s dance performance companies are being held next week.
Full Tilt Dance Company - a contemporary dance company for 12 to 18-year-olds - has auditions on Thursday, January 15 from 6pm to 8pm.
Pulse Performers Development Programme - a cross genre physical performance programme for 14 to 25-year-olds - has auditions on Friday, January 16 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Connect Dance Company - a dual-discipline ballet and contemporary dance company for over 16s - has auditions on Friday, January 16 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm
