Norwich South MP Simon Wright has been appointed as a ministerial aide to an education minister.
Prior to the recent government reshuffle, Mr Wright, below was parliamentary private secretary (PPS) to the children and families minister Sarah Teather. He will now hold a similar role working with Liberal Democrat education minister David Laws, whose post is based in both the Department of Education as schools minister and also in the Cabinet Office, where Mr Laws has a cross-government policy role.
Following his appointment, former school teacher Mr Wright said: “I’m delighted to be asked to work with David Laws in his new role. Education is a real passion of mine, and I know it’s one of David’s too. He has over many years led Liberal Democrat thinking in this policy area, including as the party’s former shadow education secretary in the run-up to the general election.
“David was the key architect for the pupil premium, which is today delivering extra support for the education of children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Norwich and across the country.”
Mr Wright remains a member of the environ-mental audit select committee.
