Schools in Norfolk have been advised not to let recent terror attacks deter plans for school trips, but have been reminded to stay alert.

Norfolk County Council issued a guidance note to schools around the county encouraging them to consider each visit as they normally would, taking into account anxiety of parents, teachers and pupils.

Schools were reminded to ensure they have 'robust back-up communications' with their emergency point of contact, as well as arranging alternative pick-up points with coach drivers.

The briefing says it may be helpful to reassure parents that schools in affected areas are still operating, and the threat level remains the same as it has for several years.

'There is no guidance from the Home Office advising not to travel,' it says.

'We would support continuing with your planned visits. Individual schools will no doubt wish to consider their plans and reach their own decisions following consultation with parents if felt appropriate.'

National media has reported stories of schools elsewhere in the country cancelling trips after the attacks in both Manchester and London.
