The 60-year-old Lib Dem MP, who suffered a stroke, visited Mundesley Infant and Junior School today to meet the 250 pupils and see its new play equipment.

Mr Lamb said: 'This was the first official visit I've done since.

'I feel fine. It's more in the head. I feel like I've dodged a bullet. I've got to learn lessons, get enough sleep, not work ridiculously long hours. 'However, I had a stupidly long day yesterday when I flew to Cornwall for the science and technology committee. I left at 7am and did not get back until 11.30pm.'

Mr Lamb was impressed with the new play equipment which was paid for by a £10,000 National Lottery grant.

He added: 'It really enhances what they have already got. Playing fields are great for children who are great at sport, but those not so good can feel left out, and need other ways to exercise and get fresh air.'

Sarah Dallimore, head of schools at Mundesley Infant and Junior, said: 'It went really well, there was perfect sunshine. It was the first time children got to explore the equipment.'

The school's business manager Jenny Goodman said they began to plan the development of the school field about 12 months ago.

She said: 'We are so fortunate to have a large open field but felt it didn't provide the range of physical activities which promoted curiosity, challenge and creativity.

'The development started with the children planting over 300 trees which were donated by The Woodland Trust.

'Along with support from parents and businesses, we have begun to create an exploration area which includes an outdoor shelter, a collection of den building resources and fencing to separate the area to allow for further developments.

'Building began over the Easter holidays. The equipment can be used all year round. The school council is continuing to discuss ideas for the outdoor area and we look forward to seeing them come to life.'
