A special rewards assembly has been held for a number of pupils at a Dereham high school following a successful work experience week.

A total of 173 students from Neatherd High took part, with almost 70 year 11 pupils rewarded with certificates for excellent reports from the employers.

“Our students get so much out of this experience,” said Rob Hodges, head of careers.

“At school they will learn academically, but being in a workplace for a week will teach them other valuable life skills they can’t learn at school.”

Toftwood Infant and Toftwood Junior School, hosted five pupils.

Headteacher Jo Pedlow said: “All of them did brilliant work and really engaged with our children.”

The Neatherd pupils had placements at schools, offices, shops, and also on farms, garages and animal sanctuaries. Most of them stayed within Norfolk, but some travelled to Suffolk, West Sussex and Surrey to complete their experience.

Dafydd Humphreys, assistant headteacher, added: “We as a school are very grateful to the local employers who give our students the chance to experience a week in the world of work.
