There was some monster fun on the timetable for youngsters at two Norwich schools.

Pupils at Harford Manor School, in Ipswich Road, and the Hall School, in St Faith’s Road, yesterday had fun exploring a monster truck which drove into class.

Southern Outlaw - a 1981 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe pick-up truck with a V8 engine - visited both schools as part of a special tour by Suffolk-based Monster Trucks Live which organises shows dedicated to the super-powerful vehicles.

Mike Skulski, short break coordinator at Harford Manor, said some of the pupils had previously been to a Monster Trucks Live event.

He said: “Some of the children who went to the event remembered the trucks and they were very excited about having one of them come to their school.

“The children were able to sit inside the truck and they were able to pretend they were driving the truck.

“Afterwards we started the engine so they could hear how noisy the truck was.

“They were very excited and very happy to have the monster truck come to their school.”

The Hall School headteacher Keith McKenzie said pupils at his school were equally thrilled to see the monster truck.

After the school visits, the Chevy C10 drove to greet youngsters at East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices’ The Treehouse in Ipswich.

Monster Trucks Live is this year raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
