A topping-out ceremony was held yesterday to celebrate the completion of an innovative roof at Suffolk’s newest high school.
The Teflon-based roof was inflated into its final place at Pakefield High School, near Lowestoft, by Waveney MP Peter Aldous and Graham Newman, Suffolk County Council portfolio holder for children, schools and young people’s services. The roof tops the high school’s first building, which should take year seven and eight pupils in June.
Built by Barnes Construction, the building is part of the first phase to build a new high school, which should be fully up and running by 2014 with 950 students. The roof was made by Novum Structures of Diss.
Supporters of Scottish champions Celtic are in Norwich ahead of the Adam Drury testimonial game tonight.

Like k day, I should like to see some detail in this story. Innovative architecture is rare in Waveney, especially in public buildings. Who designed it? In what way is it innovative? What are the advantages of this type of roof? Have any other buildings got this kind of roof? How does the cost compare with more conventional roofing? I really think Archant should offer me a job! Interesting info from greenmanwalking, thank you,

why could they have not use a composite roof panels beggers belief they last 50 years if put down properly and could have been laid by a local contractor hence giving them much needed work !

Another no news story. "The Teflon-based roof was inflated into its final place at Pakefield High School" Please could we have the significance of this type of roof covering and why is it a "innovative roof" rather than a standard hot pitch and felt usually used on school buildings?

Just one question why have Barnes Construction got the job when we have no work for the building industry in the town. Why can`t local companies be given this work to boost the towns economy and get local tradespeople back to work ? Maybe Mr Aldous might be able to look into this for phase 2 and 3 if it ever gets built maybe jobs for the local community might be a better way to go ?
