Hundreds of College of West Anglia students celebrate graduation day

Streams of caps were thrown in the air in King’s Lynn today as students celebrated reaching a milestone.

In a day they’ll never forget, graduates of the College of West Anglia donned their celebratory gowns for their graduation ceremony today.

Taking place in the Corn Exchange, in Tuesday Market Place, some 128 students collected their certificates, marking an end to years of hard work.

Qualifications ranged from higher national diplomas to bachelor degrees with honours in a variety of subjects, including construction, engineering, sciences, education, health and social care and history and english.

Hundreds of delighted family members and friends all keen to celebrate their success filled the auditorium.

Addressing the graduates, college principal David Pomfret said: “The college is very proud of your dedication and hard work.

“This graduation ceremony is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the significant achievements of our students.

“Today is a celebration of you and especially the family members who have been there for you.

“Each of you have made the most of what the college has given you - you should be extremely proud of yourselves of what you have achieved

“Be ambitious about what you can do with your futures.”

Graduates made that important walk to the stage to be presented with their awards by the heads of the different faculties.

The student of the year award for outstanding achievement, presented by deputy dean of Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Dr Apurba Kundu, went to Aleasha Fox.

Miss Fox received a first class honours in computer science and has already landed a job as a project engineer for a software company based in West Sussex.

She said: “I wasn’t expecting that, I felt faint. It has been a really positive experience and I am really happy.”

Other notable speakers included West Norfolk mayor Carol Bower and ARU deputy vice chancellor professor Roderick Watkins.

Following the ceremony, newly-graduated students joined the mayoral party in a procession through the town before making their way to the college campus for a buffet prepared by catering students.
