The headteacher of Sheringham High School has given a reassurance that it will not suffer from its association with a school in special measures.

Stalham High School is applying to become an academy sponsored by the North Norfolk Academy Trust, responsible for Sheringham High School.

Tim Roderick, headteacher at the Sheringham school, promised the governors and staff were committed to making the partnership work.

He said: “I know that and from what I understand the staff and interim executive board at Stalham feel the same. It is a very exciting time.”

Stalham High was put in special measures in February after inspectors rated it “inadequate” across the board. And in Sheringham, Mr Roderick, who is about to retire, celebrated a set of “good” and “outstanding” results in the school’s June Ofsted report.

Mr Roderick will stay on at the trust as a consulting headteacher when his replacement, Dr Andrew Richardson, steps into the role of head in September.

He promised those in charge of the schools were “not robbing Peter to pay Paul”, and that both schools would benefit from the partnership.

He said: “It will be about sharing good practice. I am experienced enough and old enough to remember that in every school that I have had the privilege to go into there are things you can always pick up and learn from.”

Mr Roderick stressed the teachers and trust were focused on education for all students.

The trust oversees Sheringham High and is due to become sponsor of Antingham and Southrepps Primary School in the autumn.
