Students in the class of 2018 have been urged to 'enjoy, reflect and dream big' as they prepare to start a new chapter in their lives.
Years of hard work and dedication was rewarded as more than 50 students were honoured at a special graduation ceremony on Saturday, October 13.
Parents, staff, family and friends celebrated with the students as the annual University of Suffolk at East Coast College, Lowestoft campus graduation ceremony was held.
The prestigious graduation ceremony recognised the significant achievements of the students, with proud family members watching on as the graduates successes were marked at St Margaret's Church in Lowestoft.
Foundation degrees, diplomas, certificates and degrees in arts, design, social care, health programmes and sport were among many which were conferred by the vice-chancellor of the University of Suffolk, Professor Helen Langton.
In opening the ceremony, Prof Langton said: 'I am absolutely delighted to welcome you all and be invited to celebrate your successes. It gives me great pleasure to declare this graduation open.'
Stuart Rimmer, chief executive and principal, then awarded an Honorary Fellowship to Hugh Sturzaker MBE, who had a distinguished career as a consultant surgeon and played a key role in local healthcare for almost 40 years.
Mr Sturzaker wished all the graduates 'every success in the future,' before the graduands were called to the front of the church to pick up their honours. With more than 85 students graduating from East Coast College (Lowestoft Campus) this year, there was loud applause, cheers and smiles aplenty as more than 50 collected their awards from Prof Langton and Mr Rimmer.
The award for Higher Education Student of the Year 2018 went to Duane Cleveland, as he graduated with a BA (Hons) in Children's Care, Learning and Development. Mr Cleveland gave the graduate vote of thanks, as the new graduates applauded parents, partners, family and friends who 'had been there in the background supporting and helping us all the way.'
In closing the ceremony, Mr Rimmer congratulated all on their successes, and urged the graduates to 'enjoy your achievement, reflect on your development and dream big.'
