The school’s headteacher, Ian Clayton, has made an appeal in the latest school newsletter, saying traffic congestion is becoming “a serious issue” and that some car drivers are “putting young people at risk of injury or worse.”

Mr Clayton then set out what he intends to do about the problems, saying: “I will continue to instruct sixth-form students not to park on the road directly near the school gates, north or south. There is parking near the all-weather pitch.

“I will continue to ask the police to monitor the area at the start and end of the day, taking action as appropriate.

“I will continue to ask the heads of houses to warn students of the dangers of traffic around the school site.”

Mr Clayton is encouraging people to use the school’s Park and Stride Scheme, dropping off and collecting from the town council parking areas in Laundry Lane and Pound Lane.

He also asked that people do not try to turn around their cars in the road or side roads near to the school.
