Primary school pupils are finding out about life in the Fens 100 years ago through the eyes of two men who wrote about their heritage.
Schools in the Downham Market area are finding out about the writings of Arthur Randell and Walter Barrett for the two-year project.
For the first year, they will be focusssing on Mr Randell, who came from from Magdalen.
Born in 1901, he spent most of his life working on the railways in the Fens. His great love was observing the fauna and flora of the area. He followed the family tradition of mole catching, his father having been responsible for controlling moles along the Ouse.
Pupils have looked at life in the past through his stories and have written plays. The culmination of the 2017 project sees performances at the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange.
