Students graduating from Norwich University of the Arts enjoyed a humorous speech by comedy creator Graham Linehan in which he urged them to get political with their art work.
The multi-award-winning writer, director and producer was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Arts in Film and TV after creating some of the most critically acclaimed TV shows in recent years including Father Ted and The IT Crowd.
He said: 'This is a huge honour and I didn't even have to do any work which is great.'
Mr Linehan, who lives in Norwich, used his speech to rally graduates into taking up politics and displaying their views within their art.
'I think the most important thing at the moment is to try and make your work political. I think people being apolitical, especially young people, is becoming a real problem. It was a plea for people to get fired up and get angry and really start to put it their art.
'We are in a fight for our lives with the people in power and art is one of the ways we can fight back.'
Mr Linehan is joined as an Honorary Doctorate by Betty Jackson, who began her career as a film illustrator before becoming a renowned fashion designer, Sir Peter Bazalgette, the non-executive chairman of ITV, who has created television shows including Ready Steady Cook, Big Brother and Deal Or No Deal, and painter and printmaker Tess Jaray.
This year's celebrations will see a record number of graduates with almost 600 students taking part in four ceremonies at St Andrew's Hall yesterday and today.
Degrees range from fine art and graphic design to fashion and animation.
Vice chancellor Professor John Last said: 'It's a great day, we are really celebrating the achievement of 600 creative students who are about to have their life and careers ahead of them.
'I think they will make a big difference in the European creative industry.'
Film and moving image production student Natalie Hazelden, 22, who graduated with first class honours, said: 'It's pretty mad and surreal. I can't believe three years has come to and end, it just feels like I'm going to be back next week. It's just been a really great experience. The speech was really good and really funny.'
