A former plumbing lecturer has been announced as the new principal at City College Norwich after working her way up through the ranks.

Corrienne Peasgood, who joined the Ipswich Road campus 13 years ago, will take on the role vacated by Dick Palmer after he took up a new job as chief executive of the new Transforming Education in Norfolk (TEN) federation.

Ms Peasgood began as a sessional plumbing lecturer at the college and has gone on to work as a lecturer, senior lecturer, director, vice principal, deputy principal and, most recently, acting principal following Mr Palmer's departure earlier this year.

She said: 'I am excited to be taking on the role of principal and all of the responsibilities that come with it. City College Norwich has a long and distinguished history and we are now entering into a new phase of development as a founder member of TEN Group.

'We are working hard, both in our own right and in strong partnership with organisations regionally and nationally, to get one step ahead of the economic challenges we are all facing. This means that students who leave us will rightly be able to claim not just to have a certificate, but also to be experienced and adaptable individuals who are ready to find success.'

Mr Palmer, who will oversee the TEN Group's various institutions including City College, City Academy Norwich, and Wayland Academy in Watton, said: 'I am delighted that the governors of City College Norwich have appointed Corrienne Peasgood.

'Corrienne has a deep affinity with City College Norwich and has played an instrumental role in many of the innovative developments and achievements that have made the college the dynamic institution that it is today.'

Like many of the students at the college, Ms Peasgood has juggled working with learning throughout her life.

Completing an apprenticeship by the age of 21, she took over the running of her family's plumbing and heating business, later running a part-time plumbing course at the college which began her teaching career.
