Two City College Norwich students will be putting their burgeoning skills to the test in a national competition this week.
Ben Hudson, who works for his father’s business AJ Hudson Builders and is currently on the Wood Occupations NVQ3 course, will be competing in the WorldSkills UK carpentry final.
While Dan Medlar, who completed the Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course at City College this summer, will be taking part in the final of the automotive technology competition.
The WorldSkills UK finals are being held at The NEC, Birmingham, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as part of The Skills Show.
Ben, 18, from Scarning, near Dereham, and Dan, 24, from Sculthorpe, near Fakenham, earned the right to compete in the national finals by recording outstanding scores in the regional heats earlier this year.
City College entered a record number of students into WorldSkills UK competitions this year, with 33 students taking part in the regional heats in 15 different skills competitions, from bricklaying to beauty therapy.
Dick Palmer, chief executive of City College and a champion for WorldSkills UK, said: “It is a tremendous achievement by both Dan and Ben to have reached the finals of their respective competitions and all of us at City College Norwich will be rooting for them as they seek to make their mark on this high profile stage.”
